Boy with Inoperable Tumor Receives Thousands of Birthday Cards

Six year-old Daniel Nickerson of Foxboro, Massachusetts had a very simple wish for his birthday: cards. Lots and lots of birthday cards.

Daniel was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma in 2013, meaning he has an inoperable brain tumor that will soon tragically cut his young life short. For a boy going through such difficulties, birthday cards are maybe the simplest wish he could have.  He wasn’t disappointed.

It’s safe to say Daniel couldn’t have imagined just how many cards he would receive, thanks to some help from strangers on the internet sending their well-wishes to the young boy. To date, he’s received thousands upon thousands.

His family has kept track of the influx of mail and packages through a Facebook page called Danny’s Warriors.

The family posted on Facebook last week, regarding the unexpected volume of packages:

Todays total rough count was a little over 8500 cards and 900 packages!!! We filled the uhaul completely up! And then filled 3 cars too!We are in awe of all of this, we are speechless and dont have enough words to explain how thankful we are for everyone of you! And all the love that you have shown us and continue to show us!

Thanks to the viral media campaign and the honest kindness of strangers, Danny’s wish came true and his birthday was made.

If you’d like to send something to brighten Danny’s day, it isn’t too late to send your well-wishes and messages of hope to PO Box 212 Foxboro, MA 02035
